Welcome to Asedo’s Kitchen

Asedo’s Kitchen is a personal food blog which celebrates South Sudanese heritage, flavour and community. Here, you will find easy, delicious, and reliable home-cooked meals. I recall and recreate some of my favourite childhood dishes, one recipe at a time.

These home-cooked meals are easy to make and tried and tested. I hope you try out some (if not most), build confidence in the kitchen, and have a joyful experience. Thank you

Our Philosophy

Preserving South Sudanese recipes, simple steps!

At Asedo's Kitchen, we're passionate about preserving culture, building confidence in the kitchen, and making cooking accessible to everyone.

Our mission is centred around three key goals:

  1. Keeping things simple in the kitchen by taking the guesswork out of South Sudanese cooking.

  2. Changing the narrative around cooking and gender roles within the South Sudanese community.

  3. Preserving South Sudanese culinary heritage.

Adiong, Served with Akou/Akop

Adiong is a traditional South Sudanese pulled or pounded meat delicacy typically simmered until tender, then mashed or shredded. It requires minimal ingredients like beef, onions, a cinnamon stick, stock cubes, and black pepper, and is often served alongside staple dishes like akou/akop, kisra or asida.

Ful (Sudanese Fava Beans)

Foul is a Sudanese fava beans recipe. It is a very filling dish which is mainly cooked for breakfast, however, it can also be served as lunch. In this recipe, am using canned beans but you can alos cook fava beans from scratch.
